Confirm the basics first

When a printer won't print, start with the simple things that are easy to overlook. Check that the printer is powered on, has paper loaded, and shows no error light or message on its display. Make sure it has ink or toner and that all covers are closed. Confirm the cable is firmly connected, or that a wireless printer is on the network and not offline. A surprising share of no-print situations come down to an open cover, an empty tray, or a printer that is simply asleep, so these checks come first.

Check the queue and default printer

If the hardware looks fine, the problem is often in software. Open your print queue and look for stuck jobs, since one stalled document can hold up everything sent after it; clearing the queue frees the backlog. Confirm the correct printer is set as your default, because jobs sometimes go to a duplicate or a phantom device that never prints. Make sure the printer is not paused or set to offline mode. Restarting both the printer and computer after these checks clears many temporary states that block printing.

Look at the connection and driver

If jobs still will not print, focus on the link between computer and printer. For USB, try a different port and reseat the cable. For wireless, verify the printer is online and reachable, and consider its IP address if it recently changed. A driver that is outdated or damaged, common after a Windows 11 update, can also stop printing even when everything else looks right; removing and re-adding the printer often restores the connection. We do not offer downloads here, but we can help you reinstall the correct software.

When nothing gets it printing

If you have checked the hardware, cleared the queue, confirmed the default printer, and refreshed the connection but still get nothing, the cause may be a deeper software or network issue, or a hardware fault worth inspecting. Chasing it with endless retries wastes time when work is waiting. We fix no-print problems on HP printers most often, along with other major brands, directly on your equipment. When your printer simply will not print no matter what you try, book an onsite visit at /schedule-an-appointment and we will get it working.
