Why paper jams happen
A paper jam means a sheet did not travel cleanly through the printer's paper path. The causes are usually simple: too much paper in the tray, sheets that stick together, the wrong paper type, or a small scrap left behind from an earlier jam. Worn or dusty rollers can also grip paper unevenly and pull sheets in crooked. Load paper the right way
Good loading habits prevent most jams. Fan the stack before loading so sheets separate and feed one at a time. Avoid mixing sizes or reusing wrinkled, curled, or previously printed sheets, since damaged paper is far more likely to catch and jam partway through the path.
Store paper properly

Store paper flat in its original wrapper, in a cool and dry spot, rather than leaving an open ream exposed on a shelf for months. Clearing jams and when to call
When a jam does happen, open the HP printer and pull the sheet gently in the direction it normally travels, never against the mechanism, and check for torn scraps left behind.
